AMM maintenance release

Hi guys.  Over the past couple of weeks I’ve gotten a few emails from Wildfire users not being able to find AMM in the Market.  So I’ve put in a fix to make it available to Wildfire users.  The problem was because of the change in how the market filters apps for devices based on their screen resolution and what resources i.e. images etc you have for your app.  It was a simple fix so now everybody can enjoy it.  Kinda… :)  Next thing to do is make this tablet friendly.

Auto Memory Manager on Amazon Appstore

Yesterday the Amazon Appstore was launched with the US and AMM was part of that launch.

I have to admit initially I was a bit sceptical about the Amazon Appstore but then one day it the value of it dawned on me. And I have to admit it was a pretty obvious usage scenario.

Amazon sells all kinds of things and they track this. Now if you’ve bought an Android phone they would be able to recommend you all these cool directly from the appstore. In fact every time you shop at Amazon they could potentially recommend you an Android app. Buy a pair of shoes? Amazon recommends a cardio trainer app. Buy a cookbook? Amazon recommends the Epicurious app. Who knows, maybe AMM will be one of those recommendations when you buy a hard drive or other gadget.

Maybe one day we would even get to the point where I can buy a phone and tell Amazon which apps I want pre-installed. Saving you the hassle of downloading them yourself.

Anyway, for those that are interested you can find AMM here in the Amazon Appstore.

Increased maximum limit and 30 minute clean up interval

AMM has just been released to the market. It’s a fairly minor but useful update.

With the new phones coming with more and more memory I thought it was time to increase the slider limits from 90MB to 250MB to accommodate the new phones. I had a couple of request for this so it looks like this was something people wanted.

The second update was also via a request. It turns out that AMM was missing a 30min clean up interval when in Auto Clean Up mode. Well…not any more. A quick config update later and now it’s there.

So go ahead and get the update :)

A major code update and a new beta to try

Hi guys.  Since the last update I’ve rewrote the AMM service and reduced the code by a third.  I’ve tidied and simplified the code quite a lot which will hopefully have long term benefits in terms of code management.

After making such a big change there is always the possibly that I’ve missed out some currently functionality or broken something.  So I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could download the beta here and give it a try.  The plan is to release it at the end of the week if there are no major issues.

As always your help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Not 1* anymore

A couple of days AMM was going through a bad time and having lots of crashes so when I went to look at the comments for the app I saw that lots of people were leaving 1* comments about the crashes.  I am quite relieved to see that it looks like a lot of those people have updated their rating since the bugs have been fixed.  I just wanted to say a big Thank You to the people that took the time to do that.

AMM released

Just released AMM  This should fix all the FCs that have been happening lately.  There was a couple of reasons the FCs was happening but the biggest culprit was a missing permission for applying the settings after a reboot.  This bug was particularly hard to track down because the compiler didn’t picked up the missing permission.  What usually happens if you are missing a permission then an exception would be thrown with a messaging suggesting the missing permission as the culprit.  But this time it behaved more like a configuration issue with the service.

The other major fix was for non-rooted phones where the correct settings weren’t being retrieved.  This was a bug introduced after a number of changes to the service code.

So hopefully most of the problems are behind us now.  I hope this release finds you all well.  Happy Xmas and New Year.

Almost there…

I’ve made some changes that should fix the problem.  The changes are currently being tested by some very helpful volunteers and I hope to release the changes later today.  Hopefully this will be the end of the horrible FCs.

I have also added links in the changelog to older versions of AMM so in the event that I have another bad build people can easily install the last stable version.  But please remember that if you install the APK manually then you won’t get update notifications from the Market.

Problems with version

Firstly I have to apologise for all the crashes that are happening.  Unfortunately I haven’t been able to replicate the problem on my phone.  So if the people having the problems could send me an email describing what they do before getting the error that would really help.

In the mean time here is a link for those of you who would like to downgrade back to 2.1.6.  Just remember that installing the app manually means you won’t be able to get future updates from the Market so remember to check in the Market if you want the latest version.

Bug fix release

There was a bug with last night’s release that is causing the AMM service to crash for some people.  There’s an update in the Market that will fix this now.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Finally an update :)

Some tests written.  Bugs found.  Bugs fixed.  Icons made.  App description and screenshot updated in Market.  APK updated to Market.

Please check the change log for those that are interested.
